Girlfriends Films Donates $1,000 to Planned Parenthood

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Girlfriends Films has donated $1,000 to Planned Parenthood on behalf of performer and director Melissa Monet who is the first performer selected by the studio in its new monthly format for the charity program.

In March, dozens of performers throughout the industry submitted essays regarding their favorite charities. Each month, Girlfriends Films will select a performer from the entries and make a $1,000 donation in her name to the specified charity.

The only condition is performers must choose from one of the organizations receiving a B+ rating or better by the American Institute of Philanthropy.

Girlfriends Films Vice President Moose says, “Melissa Monet is a talented performer and director with our company. We’re pleased to kickoff our monthly charitable program by making a donation to Planned Parenthood in her honor. We hope her philanthropic spirit will inspire others throughout the adult industry.”

“The first time I walked into a Planned Parenthood facility as a young woman I was made to feel comfortable,” Monet said. “All my fears went right out the door as a kind woman spoke to me like an adult about my sexual well-being. I knew if I was going to be sexually active, I needed to get the facts, and they were explained to me—first clinically, then with brutal honesty. It set the tone for decisions I was going to make either way; it made me more aware and taught me the importance of safety. Since my first introduction to Planned Parenthood, they have expanded their services to include so much more. Advocacy, a never-ending battle to secure our rights as human beings, has become the most important to me. I hope that others will be inspired to donate to organizations like Planned Parenthood, because tomorrow it might just be your rights on the line.”

Monet’s credits as a performer with Girlfriends Films include Lesbian Seductions 23, Mother-Daughter Exchange Club 11 and Girlztown. She directs the ongoing To Protect and To Serve series.

Girlfriends Films has a long history of charitable contributions, having donated over $20,000 in 2010 alone. The company recently restructured its charity program from an annual end-of-year donation to an ongoing, monthly program. Any Girlfriends Films performers interested in participating may apply by emailing the following information to PR@GirlfriendsFilms.com: name, AIP charity of choice, reason(s) for selecting the charity. Entries must be received by April 30, 2011.

Chosen performers will be asked to submit a personal photo depicting the performer engaged with the charity, the charity’s mission, or a similar charitable act. The photo will be used for promotional purposes.
