Public Debt
Just thought you'd want to know:
In 2000, the national debt was $5.7 trillion.
Yesterday, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson asked Congress to increase the current limit on the national debt from $8.965 trillion to $9.82 trillion before October 1 so the country can keep the government operating and pay its debts.
That means the Bush administration expects the national debt to reach or come close to that level by Oct. 1.
That means those "fiscally responsible," "small government" Republicans have added $4.1 trillion to the national debt over the past seven years. That is, they've increased it by roughly 40% in seven years ... and they aren't done yet.
