My Only Comment On Larry Craig

You remember Larry Craig, the Idaho senator who got caught at the Mipple City (that's Omaha the Cat Dancer-speak for Minneapolis-St. Paul) Airport soliciting an undercover cop for a blowjob? The senator who's steadfastly voted against gay marriage and against holding bigots accountable for their hatred when it's at least part of the motivation for some illegal action they commit -- the fundies call it "hate crime"? Anyway, he pled guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and paid more than $500 in fines and fees; the usual punishment for a VIP who violates local vice laws.

But now, this theocon group, the "Idaho Values Alliance," wants Craig to resign from his three-term seat in the Senate, because, says Bryan Fisher, executive director of these morons, assuming the police report on the matter is accurate, it "indicates that this is not the first time the Senator has practiced this behavior" -- and the police report must be accurate, because, says Fisher, "The Judeo-Christian tradition says that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact is confirmed, and one witness we have in this circumstance is the testimony of the arresting officer, who really had no reason to lie, and then the second witness that we have in this case is the guilty plea of the senator himself -- and it's just hard to imagine that he would have pled guilty if this had just been accidental or unintentional actions on his part."

In other words: HE'S A GAY BOY! (Or maybe a bi boy; who the hell knows?)

Anyway ... Big fuckin' whoop...

But, y'see, the thing is, Fisher is calling for Craig's resignation because although Craig has "consistently supported policies that protect the sanctity of life and the family, it appears in his private life that he has fallen short of the standards he advocated in his public life."

Now, my memory ain't that great, but wasn't it just a month or so ago that it came out that Sen. David Vitter (R-FamilyResearchCouncil), sponsor of the Marriage Protection Amendment and one of the few congresscritters to score a perfect 100% from the American Conservative Union, was on the D.C. Madam's phone list because he'd hired hookers through her service back when he was just a Rep. from Louisiana, and may even have fathered a child by one of them?

So where's the call for Vitter's resignation because "his private life [fell] short of the standards he advocated in his public life"?

Or do the fundies reserve that treatment just for politicians caught with their pants down in the men's room?
