Book Shopping At The Values Voter Summit

Something I didn't write about in my reports on the Values Voter Summit on (here and here ) was the tradeshow area - I like to call it the "hucksters' room" - where I picked up a few interesting items; notably a couple of books, The Homosexual Agenda: Exposing the Principal Threat to Religious Freedom Today and Abstinence 101: Everything You Need to Know About Abstinence Education, both of which I'll be reviewing for AVN at some point (when I can work up the stomach to read them through).

Just to give you a taste of that first one - written by Meese Commission chief counsel Alan Sears, now head of the Alliance Defense Fund, and ADF VP Craig Osten - here's the beginning of "A Note from the Authors":

"While this book deals with a difficult and contentious issue, we want to state up front that both authors and the ministry of the Alliance Defense Fund have nothing but respect, compassion, and sensitivity toward those ensnared in homosexual behavior."

As for Abstinence 101, I'll be speaking to Dr. Marty Klein about that when he comes back from his trip to India - you can read about that on his travel blog - and writing something based on that ... but in the meantime, see if you can find something missing near the end of their article, "The 12 Steps of Bonding":

"8. Hand to Head - Denotes absolute trust in a person with the most vulnerable part of the body, our heads. Think about it, who do we allow to touch our heads?

"9. Hand to Body - No genital contact. Knowledge of the body. Know little things about their body, a mole, a toe, etc.

"10. Mouth to Breast - Universally means 'I'm dependent on you' (man to woman).

"11. Hand to Genital

"12. Genital to Genital."

What the hell happened to "11a. Mouth to Genital"? Whassamatta? Blowjobs and pussylicking not good enough for these anal-retentives? Could this be why, in a survey of District of Columbia hookers done several years ago, they reported that the thing most of their (politically well-connected) customers wanted was blowjobs?

Anyway, I picked up a bunch of other good shit at the VVS, including a Post-It pad from Parents Television Council (PTC) with the legend, "Because our children are watching"; a booklet, "The ACLU vs. America - Exposing the ACLU's True Agenda'; several stickers from the Abstinence Clearinghouse: "Pet Your Dog, Not Your Date"; "What Part of NO Don't You Understand?"; "Truth: Sex Doesn't Equal Love"; and a "tattoo" heart with an arrow through it, "I'm Worth Waiting For"; a booklet from the Christian Action Network, "Jihad in America! Militant Islam: The Religious War Against America"; a brochure from The Heritage Foundation: "Without a Heritage ... Every Generation Starts Over"; a booklet from ADF, "Defending Our First Liberty" (no, not speech - religion!); a PTC "Special Report," "Dying to Entertain: Violence on Prime Time Broadcast Television 1998 to 2006"; and a flyer, "Facts, Not Flattery, about Same-Sex Attraction" from the "Ad Hoc Committee on Homosexuality and Scientific Research."

Oh, yeah; and I bought two lapel buttons: "Goldwater '64 - Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue" and "Kiss Me! I'm a REPUBLICAN".
