Another Letter The NY Times Didn't Print
So I'm looking in the NY Times a few days ago, and there's this article titled "Maybe Too Little, Always Too Late," about how slow Congress is to enact legislation to help deal with recessions, one of which we happen to be in right now (unless it's a Depression ...). And the article gives the beginning and end dates of the last eight recessions ... and I couldn't help noticing something odd.
So I wrote the NY Times a letter about it, which they didn't print:
To the Editor,
I couldn’t help but notice, in your chart listing the dates of recessions and antirecession programs (“Maybe Too Little, Always Too Late”, Jan. 23 Op-Ed), that except for the first one listed (Nov. ‘48-Oct. ‘49), all of the other seven recessions began (and usually ended) during Republican presidencies, with the one exceptional ending date, Feb. ‘61, being one month after Democrat John F. Kennedy took office.
Do you suppose that means something?
