<i>Inside Deep Throat</i> Reflects Upon the Films Impact on American Culture

Yesterday the Los Angeles Times wrote a lengthy article on Inside Deep Throat, a $2 million dollar documentary that will be released theatrically before airing on HBO next year.

Yet even more notable than the topic matter, the price tag, or even the article's placement on the front page of the Calendar section is the man who is producing the project – Brian Grazer, who is better known for producing blockbuster mainstream hits.

The same Grazer that produced Apollo 13, Splash, A Beautiful Mind. He’s obsessed with the cultural impact Deep Throat has had on America.

“Johnny Carson would talk about it [Deep Throat] every night….it crossed every barrier, it entered the zeitgeist. It was in our grammer,” Graze told the Times

The title of the adult film became the code name for Woodward and Bernstein’s source for the Watergate scandal, so Deep Throat was mentioned in the news quite a bit in 1973. Linda Lovelace was famous in her own right, the first true “star” of adult.

And couples throughout America went out to see it – there were actually lines around the block in some cities. One such couple was Grazer’s grandparents. His grandmother told him “It was quite a film.”

Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, documentary makers who have worked on a number of adult-related projects, directed the project. They are currently working on a reality TV series about Vivid Video.
