AdultQuest magazine and Risque Business raised $1,500 for breast cancer research at the first Lone Star Pornutopia weekend. Co-sponsored by Wicked Pictures, the convention was the first of its kind to be held in Houston.
Over 30 adult stars attended the expo, including Wicked Girls Jessica Drake and Carmen Hart, Ron Jeremy, Summer Haze and Jade Simone-St. Clair. “Nobody knew what to expect,” said Adult Quest editor Steve Seidman, who organized the weekend with company president John Gray. “The idea was to have a mini-expo because a lot of the people in Houston don’t get a chance to go out to the AVN show. We wanted to throw an early Xmas present to the people of Houston.”
Seidman characterized the event as a great success. “It was a fun event for everybody,” he said. “I received a lot of compliments from the entertainers. The crowd enjoyed themselves, and there were no demonstrations. When I sent out the initial press release to the mainstream, nobody responded. On the day of the show, all of a sudden everybody from the Houston papers to radio shows, Channel 13, Fox News and even Telemundo wanted to do interviews. Overall, for a first-year event, it went smooth as can be. I used to be the editor of Adult Stars magazine in Florida, and we had less problems here than when we did that [Florida] show.”
Pornutopia’s organizers raised the breast cancer funds through a breast-augmentation giveaway courtesy of Summerhazeboobs.com. “When Craig and Summer presented the idea to us we decided to turn it onto a charity-type event,” Seidman explained. “We did a lot of collection at the clubs and at the expo for breast cancer research, and we matched those donations ourselves.”
Seidman and Gray plan to focus more on the expo for next year’s Pornutopia 2. “We learned a lot from this and next year we will be back, bigger and better with more emphasis on the Expo part of the show,” Gray said.
