NEW YORK—The 45 Bleecker Street Theatre, where the new play about the making and aftermath of Deep Throat just opened, has closed suddenly. A message on the theater website says the theater is in a dispute with its landlord.

“Theatre is temporarily closed. Like many New Yorkers, we are in dispute with our Landlord. Due to litigation we have no comment at this time. Further information will be posted as it becomes available,” reads the message.

The play currently running, The Deep Throat Sex Scandal, written and produced by David Bertolino and directed by Jerry Douglas, has also closed, after only one performance on opening night, and has no plans to reopen at another theater.

“The Deep Throat Sex Scandal last performed Sunday October 10, its opening night,” reads a notice on the play’s website. “Cast and crew members arrived for the Tuesday evening performance to find themselves locked out of the theater. At this point, the company cannot gain access to the sets, costumes, props, or audio-visual equipment (as well as actors’ personal property), so a move to another theater is impossible at this time.”

The play previewed beginning in September and opened to mixed reviews.
