CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Smash Pictures head of production Stuart Wall has stepped behind the camera to co-direct the upcoming release Teen Idol 6 with new Smash shooter Billy Springfield.

"It's great to get back on set and direct," said Wall, who is using the name 'Sir Real' as his directorial handle. "This isn't a one-time shot; all in-house Smash shoots will be a collaboration of Billy and myself."

Springfield came to the porn business with a background as a TV news cameraman. A family connection got him the gig at Smash, and Teen Idol 6 is his first movie for the company.

"This is my debut in adult," Springfield told AVN. "Prior to moving to L.A., I was working in television and film production in Massachusetts. I was looking to get into mainstream film, but when this opportunity arose I couldn't turn it down."

Wall and Springfield wrapped the first scene for Teen Idol 6 this week with Latina newcomer Mimi Allen (pictured above) and Rico Strong. The high-def video will be completed next month for October release.

"We wanted to go back to the roots of the series, which started out as an American Idol takeoff," Springfield said. "I shot the first scene with Stuart; he's showing me the ropes, so when I do features of my own I'll locked in."

While he is well-known as an adult video sales rep, Wall actually started out in B-movies. He wrote and produced the 1992 horror film Hellroller, which starred cult actress Mary Woronov, XXX stars Hyapatia Lee and scream queen Michelle Bauer (a.k.a. Pia Snow of Cafe Flesh.)

"Back in '89, I moved out here with my band [Inextremis] to be a rock star, and answered an ad for a job selling B-movies," Wall told AVN. "After meeting numerous people, I was told there's more money to be made on the darkside: porn. From there, I landed at VCX working at John Holmes' desk at Penguin Video. In between, I shot my horror-cult B-movie and stayed in sales ever since, landing at various companies."

Wall is excited about collaborating with Springfield on the new movie, which he feels will breathe new life into the Teen Idol series. The box cover has Allen imitating Macaulay Culkin's famous Home Alone expression - with Strong's giant black dick in her face.

For Springfield, shooting his first scene was an encouraging introduction to the jizz biz.

"It's very different from mainstream video as far as the atmosphere," Springfield said. "It was really relaxed, everybody having a great time, where on mainstream sets there's usually a lot of tension and yelling. It was a great first experience - I'm glad I made this decision, and look forward to the future."
