Press Conference Tuesday Addresses 'Social Costs of Porn'

A panel of anti-porners will present a report that offers ‘a multifaceted approach’ to reducing the social harms created by pornography consumption

Press Conference Tuesday Addresses 'Social Costs of Porn'

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A press conference on the social costs of pornography will be conducted Tuesday morning at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., by a group of leading thinkers dedicated to a thorough and unbiased examination of the controversial issue … NOT.

The press conference, which is sponsored by the conservative Witherspoon Institute, actually features a one-sided panel of anti-porn activists in yet another desperate exercise in socially intolerant right-wing propaganda intended to scare America off sex.

The purpose of the conference is twofold: to promote the release of a new report by Witherspoon titled The Social Costs of Pornography: A Statement of Findings and Recommendations, and also to promulgate recommendations based on the report about ways society can address the supposedly deleterious effects of porn.

The following individuals will be in attendance at the press conference:

* Mary Anne Layden, director of the Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program, Center for Cognitive Therapy, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania;

* James Stoner, professor of political science, Louisiana State University;

* Mary Eberstadt, research fellow, Hoover Institution;

* W. Bradford Wilcox, professor of sociology, University of Virginia;

* Emmett McGroarty, director, Preserve Innocence Project, American Principles Project; and

* Janice Shaw Crouse, director and senior fellow, Concerned Women for America, Beverly LaHaye Institute.

The press conference will take place Tuesday, March 16 at 9:15 a.m. EST, at the National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C. It may also be broadcast on C-SPAN.
