No Hollywood Star for Reality TV Folk, Either

According to the Hollywood Chamber’s guidelines, though, adult legend Nina Hartley should be a shoo-in for a star!

No Hollywood Star for Reality TV Folk, Either

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Despite the fact that those stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are pretty much available for the having if you’ve got the moolah ($30,000!), there apparently are some insurmountable obstacles for common folk like Kim Kardashian and well, pick your porn star.

It turns out that the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame, does not think that reality TV performers are qualified to get stars no matter how famous they become. The same goes for porn stars. (Sadly, that means Kim loses out on both counts, which must really hurt the newlywed’s feelings. We do feel her pain.)

This all came to light courtesy of Ana Martinez, vice president for media relations and producer of the Walk of Fame, who recently posted a comment to the Walk of Fame Facebook page that said, "Someone asked if we give reality show characters stars? Hell to the No!"

Reached for comment by CNN, Martinez elaborated on her FB post, saying that star recipients need to exhibit “longevity in their field of entertainment, awards and other honors, and philanthropic work. She also points out that the Facebook post reflects her personal opinion—‘It's just not on the radar for us right now.’”

The CNN article notes that reality TV stars have gotten their stars, but for other achievements. “Ryan Seacrest has a star for his radio career,” CNN reported. “Ozzy Osbourne has one, but for his music, not his mumblings on MTV's The Osbournes. Gene Simmons is on the Walk, but with KISS, not his Family Jewels."

Well, it looks as if Kardashian is out of luck, but what about Nina Hartley? The adult actress is a bone fide star in her own right, with more longevity than most mainstream stars, and a closetful of awards and years worth of philanthropic work to her credit. She has mainstream cred, too, having appeared in Boogie Nights. Hartley is also one of the most articulate advocates for sex-positive thinking in the country, and has only just agreed to become a member of the advisory board of Adult Production Health and Safety Services, a new industry health testing service and database formed by the Free Speech Coalition.

How does the Hollywood Chamber say no to her?

Isn't it funny how this same society we live in that glorifies garbage like reality show "stars" with no talent whatsoever also condemns those who not only do porn, but went into the porn business with intent and happen to possess some smarts as well? Nina Hartley has much more class and charm than any of the godawful Kardashians will ever have! (Going off on a tangent, despite all the buzz surrounding reality show people these days, the fact that they can't and probably will never get a Hollywood star on the Walk of Fame--the indelible mark that someone famous has "made it"--all the more proves that they can never be truly successful for being famous for nothing.) A no-talent like Paris Hilton gets the mainstream magazine covers, yet they won't touch Sasha Grey, for all her known intellect and precocious allure, simply because she has done porn. Chalk it up as another one of America's heinous inconsistencies, that stupid reigns over smart sexuality.
