'Newsweek' Talks to Jeff Mullen About Porn Parodies

HOLLYWOOD—X-Play president Jeff Mullen, a.k.a. Will Ryder, scores one of his biggest mainstream coups yet in the form of an extensive interview with Newsweek writer Joshua Alston posted today on the news outlet's "Pop Vox" blog about the director's leading role in the resurgence of porn parodies.

Referring to the current parody boom as "the new gold rush in porn," Mullen details the genesis of his 2007 mega-hit Not the Bradys XXX—widely credited as the movie that started the trend—and his decision-making process behind choosing new TV sitcoms to take on (including follow-up targets Bewitched, The Cosby Show and Married With Children) and casting them appropriately.

Mullen also talks up his just-wrapped third installment of Bradys, featuring Lexi Belle as the third Marcia (it's due out at the end of October), and indicates ambitions of a shift on the horizon into mainstream directing.

"The next stop for me is Hollywood," Mullen told Alston. "They might not see it that way because in Hollywood's eyes, we are still dirty, filthy pornographers. But in my eyes, we are moviemakers."
