EL DORADO, Kan. - Emily Sander, an 18-year-old student at Butler Community College, has been missing since last Friday. Friends and family have since confirmed that Sander performed online porn scenes under the name Zoey Zane.
Jacob Sander verified to the Associated Press that the woman appearing nude on ZoeyZane.com is his sister. In addition, classmate and close friend Nikki Watson revealed that Sander had recently signed a contract for her online porn work, and informed her parents about it on Thanksgiving.
"She enjoyed it," said Watson. "She is a young teenage girl and she wanted to be in the movies and enjoyed movies. She needed the extra money. Nobody in El Dorado knew besides her close friends."
El Dorado Police chief Tom Boren said yesterday that FBI and state experts on internet crime are examining any possible links between Sander's internet work and her disappearance. "Investigators are aware that Ms. Sander was apparently involved in a website situation," he said. "Allegations that this may factor into her disappearance are being thoroughly investigated."
In an update this morning, Boren told Fox News that investigators have not found any connection between Sander's porn work and her disappearance. Watson has also said that she does not believe Sander's disappearance is related in any way to the adult website.
Wichita-based affiliate program Ragingbucks.com signed Sander to her performing contract. The company registered ZoeyZane.com in April and launched the site on Sept. 25.
"Right now we're working on setting up a reward fund for any information leading to finding Emily," RagingBucks.com webmaster Tampa Toker told AVN.com. "We are still keeping up our spirits. I took the site down on Tuesday, before the story made the news, out of respect for [Sander's] family."
Sander was last seen leaving a bar in El Dorado, about 30 miles from Wichita, with a man named Israel Mireles, 24, whom she'd met there that night. Mirales had been living temporarily in a nearby motel room, where his boss from the Italian restaurant at which he was employed came looking for him Saturday after he failed to show up for work. The room was in disarray and spattered with blood.
A nationwide manhunt has been ordered for Mireles and his 16-year-old girlfriend, and a rental car he had been driving turned up Tuesday in Vernon, Texas, about 50 miles northwest of Wichita Falls, and near relatives of Mireles. That same day, police released a photo of a bedspread that was missing from the motel room where Mireles had been staying, asking for the public's help in locating it for evidence.
When last seen, Sander was wearing low-rider jeans and a "Don't Mess With Texas" t-shirt. She has brown hair, blue eyes, and several tattoos and body piercings. Her car was found Saturday at the El Dorado bar.
Searches of the Walnut River dam area have turned up no body. Police have asked the public to pay attention to areas east of El Dorado along U.S. 54 to Fort Scott and along U.S. 69 to Baxter Springs.
A candlelight vigil for Sander was held Wednesday night in El Dorado, attended by dozens who spoke fondly of her as a sweet, well-liked girl. Said police chief Boren, "Our hopes kind of diminish each day we don't hear from her."
