LOS ANGELES — AVN.com has confirmed the existence of a sex tape featuring 1990’s country star Mindy McCready.
The contents of the tape and release date are still unknown at this time, as is who will handle the distribution, but several sources have confirmed the tape exists, and that it will be released.
Malinda Gayle McCready came to prominence in country music in the mid-‘90s with hits like the Top 10 "Ten Thousand Angels" and country chart No. 1 "Guys Do It All the Time." The blonde, sassy singer from Florida became a pin-up favorite and made gossip columns when she dated "Lois and Clark" Superman star Dean Cain and became engaged to him for a time.
A year ago, McCready confirmed an affair she had with baseball star Roger Clemens when she was only 15 years old and he was 28, already married. The pair reportedly met in a Florida karaoke bar when she was an up-and-coming singer.
"I cannot refute anything in the story," McCready told the New York Daily News.
In this decade, 33-year-old McCready's music career took a tailspin and she's faced compounding legal troubles, including a 2004 arrest for fraud, prescription medicine abuse, DUI, identity theft, battery, resisting arrest and jail for a probation violation. In May 2005, her ex-boyfriend was arrested and charged with attempted murder after beating and choking her, and she's also attempted suicide twice with drugs and alcohol.
As the Daily News said, "She is, in essence, the perfect country song."
McCready will appear in 2010 on the VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, and some adult industry insiders believe that's when the tape will see the light of day.
Celebrity sex tape broker Kevin Blatt had no information regarding the McCready tape, but observed its release would be well-timed with her appearance on the VH1 program.
"I think there would be limited interest because she's not an A-list star. But she is in the new cast of Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab, so one would assume a company would be putting it out around that time," Blatt said.
"If timed right, it could be very successful. Her name, image, doesn't do too much for me, but there probably is a hillbilly contingency that likes that kind of shit," Blatt adds. "She doesn't float my boat, but when it comes to celebrity sex tapes, it's not about me or whoever's releasing it. It's about the celebrity and finding people out there that enjoy her, are fans of her. Fans will buy anything put in front of them; give them enough things with a name and they're going to buy it -- it's all fan-based.”
