Who knew? Three sweet-faced young ladies from the O.C. back in California, that’s who.
“We don’t want to push anything on the girls,” explained “Jesus Loves Porn Stars” volunteer and college student Laci Warne, 20, as representatives of parent organization, XXXChurch, worked to inflate their majestic plastic phallus adorned with block letters demanding: “Do you have the balls to give up porn?”
“We’re just here to tell them that God loves them and to show them that love,” Warne continued. Jesus Loves Porn Stars seeks to spread the spirit of Jesus Christ to female porn stars, while XXXChurch’s focus is porn-viewing men who want help with dirty-movie addiction. Warne and her fellow volunteers, Katie Green and Diane Mahon, could be and sometimes are mistaken for porn stars themselves on the AEE Expo floor. And Warne said that the group’s paperback copies of the New Testament, offered for free, are sometimes mistaken by showgoers as irreverent “porn versions” of the bible.
“Some people say they thought it was a sick joke [at first],” Green said. “Some have said, ‘I was going to say something if this was blasphemous,’ but we tell them, ‘No, no, we’re for real,’” Warne added.
Warne said that she and the others walk around the show floor handing out cards to female porn stars, asking for their autographs and inviting them to their booth for a free t-shirt. “The most important thing is to get their names so we can pray for them,” she said.
Two women who could also be mistaken for porn stars, as they were wearing little more than bathing suits (they are cast members of local Vegas show “ Erocktica”) came by the booth for their free t-shirts.
“Pink’s my favorite color,” enthused Sasha, adding, “I love the logo.” “It’s really cute and appealing to the eye,” agreed Erica. Erica and Sasha both said they understood the Christian focus of the Jesus Loves Porn Stars booth and were enthusiastic about the group’s presence at the show.
“I think it’s a positive thing to have them here,” Sasha said. “Everyone’s welcome.”
