Director Devin Wiley and Flava Works, Inc., owners of the top selling black gay Dorm Life DVD series have decided to self-distribute Dorm Life 7: Hot & Creamy, Wiley announced in a press release last week.
The purpose of self-distribution of this title, according to the release, is to avoid further distribution delays caused by a lawsuit brought by Pitbull Productions over the use of "Hot & Creamy" as the film's subtitle.
Pitbull, which released Thugporn Presents Hot & Creamy in April, "is claiming copyright and trademark to the tagline 'Hot & Creamy'," Flava Works' release said.
Refuting Pitbull's claim, Jakson Robinson, Flava Works' Business Development Manager, said, "A recent trademark and copyright search returned no results to the ownership of such words and a recent Google search returned no less than five hundred pages [with the phrase] including a straight porn website by the same name. Dorm Life 7 was appropriately tag-lined 'Hot and Creamy' because the last scene features a nine-man bukkake (a group sex practice wherein a series of men take turns ejaculating on a person), a first in Black Gay Porn."
The on-sale date for Dorm Life 7 was originally planned for September 1 through Flava's distributor 1 Distribution of Los Angeles. However, threats and harassment aimed at 1 Distribution, Wiley said, have caused substantial delays in the movie's distribution by 1.
“Therefore," said Robinson, "we have decided to no longer burden 1 Distribution with [Pitbull's] intimidation and to self-distribute Dorm Life 7. We don’t want to keep fans from enjoying the latest release in the Dorm Life series, especially when the lawsuit is a frivolous one, at best.”
"Only Dorm Life 7 is affected by Flava's action," a 1 Distribution spokesman told GAYVN. "We will continue to distribute all other Flava Works titles. Flava offered to indemnify us against this lawsuit, but this process would involve such a loss of time we agreed that it is important to not delay the movie's release any longer."
Dorm Life 7: Hot & Creamy can be ordered directly from Flava Works, 866-996-6335, or FlavaWorks.com.
