"The format is showing signs of being a very successful and profitable new medium to release adult-video projects," said Vice President Robert Brickman.
While several adult studios are waiting to see which format will prove to be more accessible and affordable, Brickman said, Dimension DVD chose HD DVD because of its affordability and the support the company has received.
"Replicators will be able to more easily upgrade their replication lines to run HD DVD," he said.
Brickman said the company owns two Panasonic P2 cameras with all of the necessary accessories and will let anyone in the industry borrow them to shoot a high-quality, high-definition movie and release it on HD DVD.
Brickman cited Club Jenna's Pinup Perversions as an outstanding example of an adult HD DVD release shot with Dimension's P2 cameras. "It's not grainy — the skin tones are smooth, the image is sharp," he said. "It gives a little more clout to using HD in this industry, because it's not so harsh as people thought it would be. The sex looks great ... everything looks great. Everything's in focus, everything stands out. It blows your mind when you first see it."
To promote its decision, Dimension DVD developed the AVN Expo HD DVD Sponsorship Program, in which participants will feature titles in the format. Brickman said participating studios will promote more than 15 HD DVD titles before, during and after the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, which will run from Jan. 9-12 in Las Vegas.
