Danny Boyle to Direct 'Porno' Adaptation

Will reunite cast for long-awaited Trainspotting follow-up

Danny Boyle to Direct 'Porno' Adaptation
NEW YORK - Director Danny Boyle, whose 1996 adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel "Trainspotting" became a cult phenomenon in the U.K. and America, told MTV News reporter Kurt Loder in a just-released interview that he intends to reunite the Trainspotting cast for a screen version of Welsh's follow-up book, "Porno."

In "Porno," the anti-heroes of the original story — Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie — are brought back together nine years later, when Sick Boy (portrayed in Trainspotting by Jonny Lee Miller), now a cocaine addict, recruits Renton (Ewan McGregor) to help him rob a large sum of cash in order to fund a porn movie.

"We won't be able to do it for a while because the guys don't look any different," Boyle told Loder. "Porno" takes place, Boyle explained, "when they're 40, when they hit middle age, when they hit that wall of limitation, when they find out that they are vulnerable and fragile. … [The actors] haven't aged at all! They give this impression to the public that they're out drinking and smoking, when in fact they are in a spa somewhere in the country!"

"It won't be an easy sequel," Boyle said. "I hope it will be an interesting one. Because the audience who saw the film originally will have aged also."
