Texas Candidate Wants Domain that Directs to Porn Site

THE WOODLANDS, Texas—Neil Burns, a Democrat and former oil executive who is challenging incumbent Republican Kevin Brady for the privilege of representing Texas’ 8th District in Congress, has discovered that a website he wanted to purchase as his official campaign website is already being used … by a Japanese porn site.

According to local news reports, Burns mentioned to a reporter that he was considering purchasing a domain with the name “Burns for Congress.” Makes sense, except for one problem. The day the article was published, a friend of the 59-year-old retired Shell Oil executive tried to check the availability of BurnsForCongress.com, only to discover that it directs to a Japanese porn site.

According to YourHoustonNews.com, “Through some research, Burns discovered the domain was originally a campaign website for a former Georgia congressman no longer in office. The congressman had purchased the right for the domain name for 10 years, Burns said, but somehow the owner of the porn site’s domain name had taken advantage of the site’s high ‘hit’ count and redirected it to the porn site.”

Burns said he has tried to contact the site to see if the owners are willing to sell it to him, but no one has yet responded to the query. If they do not ever reply, though, he can always turn the tables by purchasing BurnsForCongress.xxx and using it for his official campaign site.

That’ll show ’em, even if it doesn’t get him elected.
