The figures suggest that about 141 million Americans viewed online video that month.
"With the writers' strike keeping new TV episodes from
reaching the airwaves, viewers have been seeking alternatives for fresh
content," Erin Hunter, comScore's executive vice president of media and entertainment,
told Digital Media Wire.
"It appears that online video is stepping in to help fill that void."
Google sites such as YouTube and Google Video topped the U.S. video property list in December with 3.3 billion video views (32.6 percent), while News Corp.'s Fox Interactive Media (MySpace) was second with 358 million views (3.5 percent).
Also in the top five were Yahoo! with 340 million views (3.4 percent), Viacom Digital with 238 million views (2.3 percent) and Microsoft with 180 million views (1.8 percent).
