Groups Pushing for Philippine Anti-Child Porn Bill

MANILA, Philippines – A push is on from various groups in the Philippines to pass an anti-child porn bill.

The Philippine Star reports public and private organizations have come together to support the legislation.

According to Natalie Lamin, chief of child protection of UNICEF, the focused advocacy campaign includes the release of new studies, extending training and services for victims, along with groups forging partnerships.

Lamin called the fight against child pornography a global initiative and in the Philippines, UNICEF is combining efforts with ECPAT Phils., a private company that works with various IT corporations and 'net cafes to raise awareness.

"Although there will be certain vulnerability, our aim is to protect children to a new level and this fundraising event is a very good opportunity to encourage them to ensure protection and uphold ethical responsibility to put certain control measures," Lamin said.

The 10-day campaign began last week on May 27 with events and rallies ranging from the nation's Sandiganbayan court to the Philippines House of Representatives, which has displayed an exhibit titled “End Child Porn.”

The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection told AVN.com it fully supports this latest action and all efforts worldwide.

"Child pornography is an international problem, therefore it must be addressed globally," said ASCAP CEO Joan Irvine. "We certainly hope that their efforts to curtail CP and help victims of child sexual exploitation will be a good addition to the efforts of other international groups who are battling this heinous crime."
