NEW YORK—Sex toys and accessories are becoming more mainstream, thanks to TV ads for Trojan and KY, and vibrators stocked on store shelves next to condoms and foot pads. And now a New York Times article is showing the industry even more mainstream love, especially to Dr. Laura Berman, retail stores Good Vibrations and Babeland and vibrator manufacturer OhMiBod.

The article discusses the increase of advertising for vibrators on networks like MTV, and their inclusion in drug stores. The piece also notes that the infamous “The Turtle and the Hare” episode of Sex and the City, which featured the Rabbit Pearl, and opening the door for more honest conversation among women about their bodies and sexuality.

“Women are getting less and less caught up on an unrealistic and puritanical vision of what a good girl is. When they can embrace their self-stimulation, they can take ownership of their sexuality,” Dr. Berman is quoted in the article.
