Babeland Goes to Columbia University

Retailer educates college students on sex toys, improving their sex lives.

Babeland Goes to Columbia University

NEW YORK - Babeland visited Columbia University last week for a presentation about sex toys, and a lecture and workshop about how people can improve their sex lives.

"More college campuses are doing sex-toy workshops than ever before," said

Dallas Schuster, a sex educator for Babeland. "Students want to learn more about them, and student groups and health-services groups are willing to bring people to campus to talk. As sex toys lose their stigma, colleges are more open about having them on campus. Columbia has had sex-toy workshops on their campus with Babeland for over four years now."

Justin Laird, a senior health educator at Columbia, said interest in Babeland's programs has steadily increased since his department began hosting them.

"We do a lot of our programs at student request," said Laird, who brought in Babeland representative Elise Schuster for the lecture. "So when several student groups request that we put something like this on for them, we just do one big event."

With two locations in New York City and stores in Seattle and Los Angeles, Babeland also serves as an educational source, holding lectures and workshops.

"It's great that we can do workshops in the New York City area," Dallas Schuster said, "but it's really colleges that are further outside the city that need us."

Babeland will hold its next campus event in April at Columbia University Medical Center.
