Gay Porn Star Caleb Carter Dies

Carter reportedly hanged himself at his San Diego residence

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Gay porn star Caleb Carter died Friday at his home in San Diego, according to several industry sources.

Although GAYVN has not been able to confirm the cause of death, sources reported suicide by hanging.

"He was a force to be reckoned with; this incredible free spirit," director John Roecker told GAYVN on Monday. "There just wasn't anyone else like him. God really broke the mold when He made that kid."

Carter was known in the industry for his work as a "power bottom" with such studios as Fierce Dog Entertainment, Mercenary Pictures, Shane's World, Unzipped Video, Athletic Model Guild, Eon Films, Young Recruits and U.S. Male.

The tall, tanned Californian began his porn career in 2004, first with Unzipped Video and then under the guidance of GAYVN Hall of Fame director Chi Chi LaRue. He also appeared in segments of the MTV series "Parental Control" and "True Life."

Carter filmed his last scenes for LaRue in late 2008 for the February 2009 Channel 1 Releasing title Blake Riley's Movin' In.

"Caleb Carter loved every minute of being known for his wild antics both on and off camera," Jason Sechrest wrote in the "News Desk" section of his site JasonCurious.com. "Caleb was a lot of fun. He was a good friend and one of the best performers I ever had the pleasure of directing. I'm going to miss him so much.

"He would not want me or anyone else to be sad. But he would want very much to be remembered."

Roecker told GAYVN he certainly will remember Carter.

"I met Caleb when I was making my documentary Everything You Wanted to Know about Gay Porn Stars (But Were Afraid to Ask), and we hit it off immediately," he said. "Caleb was a very gifted writer and possessed an incredible wit and was going to pen his memoirs. He had no shame for making adult pictures and thought of them more as an art form than something that was dirty."

"The last time I talked to Caleb was last week," Roecker said. "We were going to drive up to San Francisco together for the GAYVN Awards.

"I hate referring to Caleb in the past tense because, he will always be with us - his family, his friends, his fans," Roecker added. "No one will ever be able to replace him. This is an incredible loss."
