Soda Cans Find New Life As Lingerie

Designs also features pieces found at local hardware stores

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Artist and designer Ingrid Goldbloom Bloch has given new meaning to the term "trashy lingerie."

Known for pieces featuring recyclable materials, Bloch has created a line of underwear, bustiers, and bras using aluminum cans and other metal pieces readily found at your local hardware store.

The pieces - technically wearable, but probably a little uncomfortable - are titled "A Clean Pair for Every Day of the Week" and have been displayed throughout the U.S. as well as internationally in art shows and sustainable fashion demonstrations.

Bloch's work has always been inspired by items found in hardware stores.

"As a little girl, I would accompany my father on his errands and get lost in the aisles imagining all the things I could make from the bits and pieces I came across," she wrote on her website. "Since that time, hardware stores have been the inspiration for many of the mixed-media sculptures I create."
